Description: A view looking east from the towpath of the Nottingham Canal showing Nottingham Castle still roofless and derelict, some 34 years after it had been set alight by rioters in 1831. It is not clear whether the cottages and arched bridge ever existed at this location or whether they are artistic licence - neither appears on maps of the 1880s.
The artist, William Wilde (1826-1901), specialised in landscapes and he painted many scenes around Nottingham.
