Description:
This picture shows Wilford Village Green just prior to 1870. The image must pre date 1876 as in that year the roofs of the alms cottages shown burned down were retiled. They have a carved brick with the date 1876 showing.The house on the extreme left is Church Cottage which still remains today (2011).
According to Kellys directory, Irving Sands was a draughtsman by profession. Sands showed this picture in the Nottingham Society of Artist exhibition at Nottingham castle 1882 and 1885 and it was sold for two guineas (£100 in 2011 values).
