Description: Ex-Midland Railway Class 3P 4-4-0 No 40726 calls at Chinley with the Hull & Barnsley Rail Tour. Running as special working M964, this was a joint Stephenson Locomotive Society (North Western Area) and Manchester Locomotive Society excursion for railway enthusiasts, running from Manchester Central via Chinley, Sheffield, Rotherham, Cudworth, Wrangbrook Junction, South Howden, and South Cave to Hull Paragon, returning by the same route.
No 40726 worked the train from Manchester to Cudworth, followed by the return. Cudworth to Hull and back was handled by No 62360, an ex-North Eastern Railway Class D20 4-4-0.
Built originally at Derby Works in 1902 to the design of S W Johnson, this would have been one of 40726's last runs as it was withdrawn for scrap a week later, the last of its class to survive. Although in this view the locomotive can be seen to be fitted with a British Railways smokebox numberplate and cabside numerals, its tender is still lettered 'L M S', some four years after the railways were nationalised.
