Description: A very busy scene at Chinley looking south-west with trains at or passing five of the six platforms at this important junction station.
Of those locomotives that can be identified, a Class 8F 2-8-0 is heading westbound with coal wagons through Platform 2, while beyond that a Class 2P 4-4-0 sits in bay Platform 4 with a three-coach local passenger train (perhaps for Buxton). Probably connecting with this is a Class 5MT 'Crab' 2-6-0 at Platform 3 on another passenger working bound for either Sheffield or Derby. Platform 5 is unoccupied and the engines at Platform 1 (nearest) and Platform 6 (furthest) are insufficiently clear for a positive identification, although both appear to be on passenger workings and the former may well be a BR Standard Class 4 4-6-0. Most of the carriages visible carry the early British Railways carmine and cream (familiarly termed 'blood and custard') livery, which may suggest a date around 1955.
