Description: The Primitive Methodist Church was built in 1898 but now demolished. John Askey (far left) was a founder member - on his right is the foundation stone laid by him. He came to Bolsover before the turn of the century, having previously worked in the lead mines. Here he is pictured with 22 of his scholars. The girl at the bottom right is Lizzie Marshall whose brother was an overman at Bolsover pit. John Askey's daughter Nelly (later Mrs Arthur Howard) is shown 3rd from the left on the second row. It is also thought that the girl 3rd from the right on the front row is Olive Brown, later Mrs Olive Hallam. Her father was Matthew Brown, a Primitive Methodist local preacher, and coal miner.
