Description: The Mill Close School, originally built in 1883, was a Girl's School. The girl students eventually moved to the Church Hall School situated in Mansfield Road and the Mill Close School then became home for the Junior Boys and was in use right up to closure in 1973. It was demolished in 1974, mainly to house the Co-operative Store within the new shopping complex. Mr. Frank Brooks, a teacher at the National School on Chesterfield Road, was appointed Headmaster of Mill Close and he retained this appointment until retirement.
