Description: This is one (identified as No 5) of three panoramic views taken from the tower of St Thomas a Becket Parish Church. The original caption reads: 'Chapel-en-le-Frith Looking East 1912' and 'Taken from Church Tower. By the late Mr J Waterhouse, Bowden Head'.
In fact, in this instance the photographer is here looking south towards Eaves across the Warm Brook valley. In the foreground is Market Street with the chapel-like Town Hall towards the left. Above this, in the far distance, is the slope of the self-acting inclined plane that took the Peak Forest Tramroad up the hillside en route from Bugsworth (later Buxworth) to the limestone quarries in the Dove Holes area. Moving over to the centre of the view, the house in the trees is Lower Eaves, and then at the same level as this but over to the right is the hefty embankment carrying the London & North Western Railway's Stockport to Buxton line as it approaches Eaves Tunnel.
For an overall view of the three images in this group please see DCRO100739 and for the other individual views DCRO100739A (No 3) and DCRO100739B (No 4).
