Description: The Plackett family had a variety of businesses in Breaston from the mid-19th century, including butchers, tailors, shoemakers, innkeepers, dressmakers but by 1895 the main component was lace making with William Plackett trading as H & W Plackett at a factory constructed on Longmoor Lane, adjacent to the Derby Canal. He is shown as residing at Gladstone Villa, which is possibly the house forming the backdrop to this group of workers.
