Description: Statue of Mary Queen of Scots by Richard Westmacott, c 1825. From 1569 to 1584 George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and his wife Elizabeth (Bess of Hardwick) were responsible for Mary during her long period of imprisonment in England and she was housed variously at Tutbury Castle, Sheffield Castle, Wingfield Manor and Chatsworth House. This statue was intended originally for St Mary's Bower at the latter location.
