Description: Herbert Frood started the Herbert Frood Company in 1905, developing friction surfaces for vehicle braking systems, and later became Joint Managing Director of Ferodo's. Frood was one of only a few who focused on the material in contact with the brakes surface, developing better brakes because of the inadequacies of primitive shoe brakes used on the Derbyshire hills.
In 1918 Herbert Frood bought the Cat and Fiddle Inn on the Buxton-Manchester Road when it was in danger of closing. He retired in 1927 and died in May 1931 aged 67.
