Description: Boy in the photo is Mr John A Thickitt with the farm dog Flossy. The photographer is Mrs Ruth Thickitt, John's mother.
Flossy's job was clear from the strong (and long) chain restricting her - she was the farm's guard dog (in reality a friendly, excitable dog who barked readily). In the background the contents of the heap appear limp, and look the mid-green colour of grass, rather than stiff, pale-yellow stalks of straw; building of a haystack was in progress. Inside the shed a grey-coloured Ferguson tractor is partially visible. Soon, David Brown were to be the favoured make of tractor on the farm. Mr and Mrs John and Maisy Musson were farming here at the date of the photograph.
It is clear this area of the farm buildings was above the cowsheds, which were on the lower level, beside the Repton Road. That the land is sloping up to the right means the view is eastwards, with the newly built farm house behind the photographer. Behind the roofs in view here, is scattered trees marking the boundary with level ground and the farm's pasture land.
