Description: This image was sent in by Mrs Marilyn Fraser (nee Moore) from Australia, with the following information: 'My father, Lawrence Moore, came to Australia in 1926 at the age of 16. This was to be an adventure for a couple of years. The family came from Sutton in Ashfield and Skegby. In today's terms he would be regarded as a backpacker. He carried his swag all over the eastern seaboard of Australia and even stowed away on a ship to New Zealand and back. He was here during the Great Depression, camped out in the bush and he used to tell us some very funny stories about that time. I was always at him to write a book about those times. After the Depression he saved enough to return home but fate stepped in. Dad wasn't a drinker or gambler but a so called mate urged him to put his fare on a sure thing in the Melbourne Cup. 'Take home a nice bundle of money for your Mother'. Thirty six years later, he went home for a visit'.
