Description: The Derby-Sandiacre arm of the Derby Canal showing the bridge carrying Risley Lane. Looking north-east with the Navigation Inn out of shot to the right. Traffic on the canal had ceased by 1945 and it was formally abandoned in 1964, as a result of which the bridge shown here was flattened.
This photo was taken by Derby-based postcard publisher F W Scarratt and was numbered 1525 in his series. See DCHQ501599 for an illustration of the actual postcard that was created using this negative.
It should be noted that this image is very similar to DCHQ010143 but here there is a horse and cart being led over the bridge. It is likely that Scarratt took both photos on the same occasion but decided that this was the superior version and therefore selected it to use for his postcard.
