Description: Draycott Road looking east towards its junction with Stevens Lane and Main Street. The spire of St Michael's Church can be seen in the background. The photographer has managed to get a proportion of Breaston's younger population plus a cyclist and a dog to stand still for his picture.
The alignment of the road here was later straightened but at the date of this photo Draycott Road (later the A6005) made a T-junction with Stevens Lane. At this point traffic bound for Long Eaton had to turn sharply to the right before almost immediately negotiating a second 90 degree turn leftwards into Main Street. The alterations (which occurred prior to 1937) resulted in demolition of the wall and buildings to the right, and left the former course of the highway on the approach to Stevens Lane as a wide verge, a feature that is still apparent today.
This photo was taken by Derby-based postcard publisher F W Scarratt and although its original number in his series has not been discovered, it is very probable that it was either 773 or 776.
