Description: Derby Road looking north-east towards the distant junction with Market Street and High Street. In the foreground Abbott Street joins from the right. The shop on the corner is unidentified but appears to have rolls of linoleum stacked in the doorway. Only a few of the buildings seen here survive today.
This photo was taken by Derby-based postcard publisher F W Scarratt and while its number in his series is unknown, it has been suggested that it could be 729. The figures in the centre of the view appear to be his wife Mary and son Alec; Scarratt commonly included members of his family or his mode of personal transport (bicycle, motorbike or car) in his postcard views.
