Description: Shown is a LNWR crewe and goods train with 2-40 tank. The Hopton Incline prior to 1877 had a winding engine. After this date the gradient was eased so that the trains could ascend under their own power. This photo also shows a break van (or 'fly coach') which also carried passengers.
