Description: The Beorg (pronounced Burr) means small rounded hill. See article in February 2009 edition of Duffield Parish Magazine.
They made pottery in this area, an example of which can be seen in DCHQ008117, which shows pottery from the thirteenth century which is now in Derby Museum.
There didn't used to be a road from Duffield to Allestree, so people had to cross Allestree Common to get to Duffield, which made Burley Lane an important access route, which crossed the Beorg and then up the hill.
