Description: Downing Street children dressed as 'Tulip Time' for carnival.
George Slater, a coal merchant from Hilcote Street, loaned one of his lorries for the carnival; it had to be scrubbed before it was decorated with crepe paper and wooden frames were fixed to the sides and covered.
Pictured left to right are:
Back row:- Eileen Walker, Evelyn Blower, Betty Smedley, Betty Bright and Doreen Kirkwood;
Middle row:- Margaret England, Jose Slater, Doren West, Freda West and Isobel Pugh;
Front row:- Pat Martin, Olive Johnson, Betty Holmes and Iris Brooks.
The mothers all made the dresses as prior to 1936 material was too expensive. Frills of crepe paper were machined onto the cotton nightdresses.
