Description: The two gentlemen are Mr Barnes and Mr Earnest Barratt artist and painter for the firm. Mr Barratt lived at 77 Sherwood Street, Derby, a shop where his wife and daughter Kathleen sold everyday goods, sweets, knitting wool, sewing needles, cottons etc, a local shop used and treasured by its customers Kathleen retired a long time after the death of her parents.
Mr Barnes died in 1935, however the image cannot have been taken long long before his death as the ride being decorated is for Collins and is either a Waltzer or Noahs Ark. The first Arks appeared in this country around 1929, the Waltzer a couple of years later. (Information very kindly supplied by Neil Calladine).
