Description: Herbert Haston started work as a door-trapper down the pit at the age of twelve. He became an underground fireman, then a deputy, retiring at the age of 67. His wife Alice was illegitimate - a huge social stigma at the time, but was a strong woman and later refused to meet her real father who had let her mother go into the workhouse. They lived at Halcyon Villas and later built Orchard House, Stonebroom. The eldest twin daughters both became teachers. Etty (front left) is the patient in the Morton fever hospital photo (see DCHQ006410) the children's names were Pearl, Ruby, Etty and Phyllis.
