Description: Henry 'Harry' Haston was a coal miner and Sunday school teacher. Called up for military service towards the end of the first world war, he registered as a conscientious objector and was sent to Dartmoor prison where he died 25th October 1918 at the age of 26. 'Conchies' were often treated badly and there were some mystery surrounding his death. The family was forbidden to open his coffin. The government destroyed all records relating to C.O.s in the early 1920s. See also DCHQ006413.
