Description: This building was built by the Butterley Company in 1846 as its Mechanics Institute on the site of a brewery built by Sam Wragg in 1825. Designed by Henry Isaac Stevens of Derby, it contained a library, lecture hall and coffee house. About 1883 it became the Butterley Company Colliery Offices following the opening of the Codnor Park Institute, on what became Vicarage Road.
