Description: Detail of the millennium quilt made by Mrs Hopkinson of Cromford, and other Matlock area embroiderers. Featuring significant buildings, industries, events and activities county wide. Text from Insight newspaper, January 2001, entitled Labour of love pays off. 'A band of crafts women are exhibiting the fruits of two years labour of love depicting Derbyshire life through the passage of time. The 1.5 metre by 0.9 metre (5ft x 3ft) quilt in the shape of a live-sized well dressing has been created by 20 members of a county council life long learning mixed crafts course at Tawny House. The women, from the Matlock area, used embroidery and painting techniques to show life through the millennium featuring family, landmarks, transport and health. Course leader Jayne Gascoyne said the group had been responsible for every part of the project, picking up new ideas and skills and learning the importance of planning, especially at design stage.'
