Description: Sports day to celebrate the wedding of Louisa Bramwell to Norman Thomson (see DCHQ004553 to DCHQ004557) after the couple returned from their honeymoon and prior to their sailing on the P&O liner Marmora for Shanghai on 13th September 1912. The sports were held on Taddington Hall's field and among the events were the 'toilet race' and band race with instruments. The Throwing the Hammer was won by P. C. Hallam (on the night of this photo being taken), who came from a family of farriers noted in the High Peak, and the greasy pole. A tug-of-war contest between a team from Taddington and one from the hamlets of Blackwell, Priestcliffe and Brushfield was undecided because the rope broke! The Taddington Drum & Fife band (seeDCHQ004549) under Mr Cahill played during the afternoon. A display of fireworks concluded the festivities at 8pm, tea having been taken earlier with the adults sitting down in the Recreation Room and the children in White's School.
