Description: Ex-Staveley Works, awaiting scrapping. This engine was presumably waiting to be taken to the scrap-yard in Killamarsh - many steam-locomotives were cut-up here. The yard was operated by messrs. Thos. W. Ward, and was situated in what is now (2004) Rother Valley Country Park, north of the village. Access was off the ex-Midland railway line: prior to going into the yard, the engines were stored in the 2 'road' (i.e. track) siding on the east side of the running lines adjacent north of the street between Killamarsh and Halfway. In 1964 there could be up to ten engines present, usually withdrawn off sheds in the North of England, rarely from the south or west of England. NB this scrapyard is not to be confused with the other, local T.W. Ward scrap-yard at Beighton. This also dismantled steam-locomotives.
