Description: Looking south towards Killamarsh Junction on the Great Central main line. The train is indeed one of coke hauled by a WD locomotive, and the signal has been cleared for it to proceed on to the old LDEC line towards Langwith Junction. An 'Austerity' heavy-freight locomotive hauls a southbound train of hopper-waggons (loaded with coke). Note that the semaphore signals in front of the signalbox show the train is leaving the main line: the stop-signal which is 'off' (i.e. at 45 degrees) is lower than the stop-signal to its right. This shows it controls a subsidiary route, rather than the main line. The last 'Austerity' class engines were withdrawn from service in 1967. The hut in the foreground was used by platelayers, whose responsibility was to ensure the track was maintained to a high standard.
