Description: The Barley Mow is famous for its annual Hen Race, held on the first Saturday of August each year. It is free to watch and anyone with a hen can enter. The pub houses an extravaganza of decorative objects devoted to hens and is a real hen-lovers paradise. The 2003 Championship, held on 2 August was the largest event ever. Over 30 hens competed for the Championship - the winner was Ginger Rogers, owned by Phil Addis and raced by Steve and Lorraine. This is the third time Phil has had a winning hen and this makes him the most successful owner in the history of hen racing. (information from www.barleymowbonsall.co.uk).
