Description: This picture appears in History of the Moira Collieries by P Beaumont, page 27. Mr Beaumont was appointed manager of Church Gresley Colliery on 23rd September 1897 and had charge of Church Gresley and Reservoir pits until November 1899 when a new manager was appointed to the Reservoir pit. The Church Gresley pits were sunk in 1829 by Gregory of Repton and were purchased by the Marquis of Hastings a few years later. The 'new pit' was sunk in 1834 and the 'upcast' in 1865.
