Description: The windmill was struck by lightning in 1961. A preservation order was placed upon the mill in 1966 by Derbyshire County Council. First indication of the mill is in an advert in the Derby Mercury, 16th June, 1791. The structure now standing is a mid-19th century tower mill. Now a Grade 2 listed building, and as of Spring 2002 the windmill was up and running. This was thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding. There is a regular newsletter called 'Grist' produced by the Heage Windmill Society.
