Description: The Name 'zulu' derives from the 'Zulu Shop' in Riddings Ironworks. In 1800 James Oakes formed Riddings Iron Works with his partners Saxelby and Forester, Trading as 'Thomas Saxelby & Co'. James Oakes bought into the company in 1808. In 1920 Riddings Ironworks was bought by the Stanton Ironworks Company which became incorporated into British Steel in 1950. The Riddings Ironworks was closed down on Friday, 13th June, 1969. John Williamson was a Marker-out Engineer in the Machine Shop. He started work at Riddings Ironworks in 1915 and retired from there on Friday, 8th January 1965, after 50 years of loyal service, never once being late for work.
