Description: The porch and doorway of Bentley Hall Farm, which dates to the Elizabethan or Jacobean period. The porch was built in the 19th century from the bottom of a bay window on the front of the building (see DCHQ000609). The hall is all that remains of Hungry Bentley Village except a clearly defined street grid in the adjoining fields. It was once thought that medieval peasant villages were deserted due to the Black Death that ravaged England in 1349. However, research at villages such as Wharram Percy shows that some villages were probably abandoned for economic reasons.
