Description: Bentley Hall Farm dates to the Elizabethan or Jacobean period, and is all that remains of Hungry Bentley Village except a clearly defined street grid in the adjoining fields. It was once thought that medieval peasant villages were deserted due to the Black Death that ravaged England in 1349. However, research at villages such as Wharram Percy shows that some villages were probably abandoned for economic reasons. Bentley Farm House has a central bay window, the bottom of which was converted into a porch in the 19th century (see DCHQ000610).
