Description: A view of the River Wye in Cressbrook Dale. The River Wye rises on Axe Edge above Buxton and flows south east through Buxton and Bakewell to join the Derwent at Rowsley, 15 miles later. The Photographer, Mr J L Sykes was a Manchester based painter. This view shows the mill pool build by Richard Arkwright to power his mill when in dispute with the Dukes of Devonshire over the use of the water in the River Wye. To the back, right can be seen the wall of the 'Dom', a further reservoir built by William Newton on behalf of J L Philips and brother to enhance the water supply available from this small stream.
