Description: The River Dove (from the old British word dubo meaning dark) rises on the slopes of Axe Edge, close to the Leek to Buxton road and runs southwards for 45 miles to join the River Trent with for much of its course, running with one bank in Derbyshire and one in Staffordshire. The narrow width of the river and hills shown here suggests perhaps somewhere in the upper reaches of the river ?, looking downstream.
