Description: Garland Day is held every year on Oak Apple Day, May 29th. The garland is 3 feet high and is put over the head of the garland 'king' who rides on horseback around the village.
This photograph shows the 'king', who in 1967 was Mr Gerald Melody, and the consort, Mrs Jean Lindsay, on horseback with the garland covering the king's head and shoulders.
A procession follows the 'king' and his consort around the village led by the village band. Local schoolgirls dance at intervals along the route.
The custom goes back many hundreds of years and the costumes are Stuart in style to commemorate the restoration of Charles the Second.
