Description: The lady in the floral dress (3rd from left, front row) is Irene Crone (nee Simpson). This is a picture of the first Cotton Queen celebration in Hayfield and the picture probably represents the members of the Parish Council and spouses. On the back row, the gentleman third from the right is Walter HARTLEY. On the next row down, the gentleman on the far left is probably Peter Cooper, the butcher. On the third from top row, far left is Mr BRENNAN and on the fourth from top row far left is his wife (next to Irene Crone nee SIMPSON). On the other side of Irene Crone is Mrs Isherwood. And Florence (maiden name ORMEROD) Hartley is to the right of Mrs Isherwood. To the right of Florence Hartley is Hilda Whitehall. In the centre on the front row is the Cotton Queen herself, Frances LOCKETT and on the far right is Mr Isherwood. Oaklands was built around 1875 for the Slack family. Whilst it was owned by the Isherwood family it was converted some 10 years ago to form seven apartments of a more manageable size for today's households, however it still retains, both inside and out, many original architectural features.
