Description: Taken outside the Town Hall, showing Josiah Taylor (bearded), the first Town Clerk of Buxton. The armistice that ended World War 1 was formally signed in Foch's railway carriage at 11 o'clock 11 November 1918. The armistice initially ran for 30 days but was regularly renewed until the formal peace treaty was signed at Versailles the following year. This is why many celebrations were held in 1919.
