Description: The men are posed outside the Market Place entrance to the Glossop Drill Hall which was adjacent to the Market Hall. This frontage was rebuilt in 1921. The 6th Battalion was a Territorial battalion becoming the Royal Artillery after WW1. The picture was taken after 1912 as the man kneeling on the right with the white beard is ex Sgt Instructor George Brown of the 4th Bn (later to be the 6th Bn). The third of the 3 medals he wears is the MSM awarded to him by King George V in 1912. He served for 21 years with the 1st Bn, 2nd Regt (Queens West Surrey Regt) and retired as colour Sjt in 1879 and came to Glossop at Whit 1881 and did a further 11 years with 22nd (Cheshire) Regt in Glossop with the volunteers. The Old Soldiers with him are wearing either Boer War medals, as a few Glossop Volunteer companies served in action there or served as 'regulars' elsewhere.
