Description: Location is not know for certain but for view of the church itself see DCER001020. Following history taken from 'History of Wesleyan Methodism in the Ilkeston Circuit' (1909) by W Smith.
The ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone took place on Wednesday 14 October 1896. The Architect was George Haslam of Ilkeston; and the builders were J H Vickers and Son of Nottingham. This replaced the earlier 1873 building which stood behind this one. The construction was completed by 1898 and was formerly opened on Wednesday 30th March 1898. From 1922, After the arrival of the Rev F N Charley, it became known as the Central Mission or Central Methodist Church. Charley was succeeded by the Rev William J May who left on 1929. The Church closed on Sunday 26th May 1968 and its congregation merged with that of the former Primitive Methodist Church further down Bath Street. Both buildings were demolished in 1971, 'Central' being replaced by Fine Fare supermarket which opened in March 1975 (later Solo and then Wilkinson's since 1999) and the other by St Andrew's Methodist Church. The cottage on the left was demolished by the end of 1901.
