Description: The Almshouses were built in 1744 towards the top of Town Street (later Bath Street), on the east side. They were demolished around 1890 and a branch of Crompton and Evans' Union Bank was built on the site. This was later acquired by the Westminister Bank. The building was demolished c 1980, as part of the work preparatory to the building of the Albion Centre Shopping Precinct. The plaque formerly attached to the almshouses was subsequently displayed inside St Mary's Church nearby.
