Description: Old Music Hall (probably the Temperance Hall shown on the 1880's 25 inch O.S. map). Built in 1877 by Wm Hewitt for The Ilkeston Temperance Society to promote the ideals of a non-alcoholic life through social events. The building was later used as a chapel, then a Salvation Army Barracks. In 1908-9 it was converted to a Music Hall and used until the First World War. After this it was used as a public Hall, Dance Hall, Fly Paper factory, and Hosiery Factory. In the late 1950's it was used by F Moore as a waste paper Warehouse. It was an engineering factory at the time of this photograph.
