Description: Copy of a Valentines Series postcard. Looking north towards boat house and bridges carrying the coach road between Heanor Road and Shipley Hall over Shipley lake. This lake was used as a reservoir (as was Osbournes Pond and Mapperley Reservoir) to maintain water levels in the Nutbrook Canal, as well as providing a recreational facility for the Miller-Mundy family of Shipley Hall. The lake was drained and restructured during the coal opencast extractions of the 1970's. It is now the site of the American Adventure theme park and Shipley Country Park. The 3 arched bridge is no longer there and part of the water in the foreground has silted up and become a nature reserve.
