Description: The station was closed in 1968; a victim of 'Beechings cuts'. In March 1963 Dr. Beeching, Chairman of British Rail, produced his infamous report The Reshaping of British Railways. The major recommendation was the withdrawal of loss-making passenger services. Many rural lines had to go where roads could ably cope, but the destruction of lines through built-up areas was a lack of foresight. Today the Station is used as offices and marks the southerly end to the Monsal Trail which follows the old railway route northwards to Buxton, and is a leisure provision for walkers and cyclists. (Though it should be interesting to see what the future holds for the station, as there are proposals for the re-opening of the line.)
