Description: Looking north towards Redhill Lock (No 59 in the Grand Union Canal sequence from London). This is the final lock before the Soar meets the River Trent south of Long Eaton and functions as a flood lock - careful examination of this view reveals both sets of gates to be open. The short stretch of canal that includes the lock bypasses a meander of the river. The meander is in fact navigable and has access for boats from the north end, being used as moorings.
The River Soar Navigation is part canalised river and part canal and runs for 28 miles from just south of Leicester to the River Trent. There are 21 locks.
