Description: Looking south-west from the Old Cut towards Kegworth Weir with St Andrew's Church on the skyline. The weir is on the River Soar proper and once provided power for some long-demolished plaster mills. The Old Cut is a navigable channel bypassing the weir and rejoining the river via Kegworth Deep Lock, which lies downstream from the photographer. An overflow weir connects the two separate water courses and this is evidenced here by the wooden walkway beyond the motor cruiser. The latter is named 'Naiad II'.
The River Soar Navigation is part canalised river and part canal and runs for 28 miles from just south of Leicester to the River Trent near Long Eaton. There are 21 locks.
