Description: The Trent and Mersey Canal looking west from Stenson Lock towards Willington. The boats, the nearest of which is named 'The Stenson Bubble', obscure Stenson Marina, which had been developed from the lay-by at the top of the lock in 1974 providing moorings for about 100 vessels. Around this time it was also used as a base for various hire fleets, including Black Prince, Barrington Narrowboats and Clayton Line Narrowboats, although all of these had gone by the 1980s. The name of the latter operation can be seen on the portakabin to the right. This photo seems to have been taken on the occasion of a Railway and Canal Historical Society hiring to Swarkestone aboard 'The Stenson Bubble' (see also DCCS001263 to DCCS001269).
