Description: The Peak Forest Tramroad (or Tramway)was a horse-worked plateway that connected quarries in the Dove Holes area with the head of the Peak Forest Canal at Buxworth (formerly Bugsworth). It was in operation from 1796 until the mid-1920s.
This view, taken a little to the east of Buxworth canal basin and looking north-east, shows a bridge spanning the Black Brook. This carried an elevated branch serving a battery of eight lime kilns located to the north and above the basin. The main route of the tramway lies behind the photographer.
