Description: The disused Chesterfield Canal looking south-west towards Chesterfield at Tapton. The bridge carries the Chesterfield-Rotherham railway line, its architecture being typical of the North Midland Railway, which opened its line between Derby and Leeds in 1840. The Chesterfield Canal Trust haslong term plans to reopen the canal all the way from its terminus at Chesterfield to the present head of navigation at the eastern end of the lengthy and partially collapsed Norwood Tunnel at Kiveton Park. Between 1989 and 2012 restoration of the length from Chesterfield to Staveley was completed in stages with navigation restored to the stretch seen here in 1995.
