Description: Demolition of the disused railway bridge spanning Little Hallam Hill. This carried the former Great Northern Railway Stanton Branch (serving Stanton Ironworks) over the road and had closed on 26 May 1968. The underbridges on this line were decidedly flimsy in appearance considering they had to support heavy mineral trains transporting iron ore and this accounted for the presence of substantial tie-beams below the main girders here, a sure indication that the structure had suffered movement and had needed strengthening. The remains of these lie collapsed in the roadway awaiting removal, while beyond the main girders can be seen loaded onto a trailer ready to be taken away, most probably for cutting up. A road crane operated by Alfreton-based demolition and scrap contractors W. Bush and Son Ltd stands alongside. View looking west. The brick abutments were also removed subsequently leaving almost no trace of the structure.
