Description: The start of demolition work on the disused railway bridge spanning Little Hallam Hill. This carried the former Great Northern Railway Stanton Branch (serving Stanton Ironworks) over the road and had closed on 26 May 1968. The underbridges on this line were decidedly flimsy in appearance considering they had to support heavy mineral trains transporting iron ore and this accounts for the presence of the substantial tie-beams below the main girders, a sure indication that the structure had suffered movement and had needed strengthening.
